William S. “Steve” Burdette, 86, of Elyria, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland. He was born February 9, 1927 in Lavonia, Georgia and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He lived in Greenville, South Carolina, before moving to Elyria in 1955.
Steve was employed in the plant protection department at General Industries in Elyria for 34 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of College Heights Baptist Church in Elyria and enjoyed playing golf and traveling.
Steve is survived by a son, Howard (Lisa) Wilmoth of Sandusky; grandson, Daniel Wilmoth; granddaughter, Christy Wilmoth; two great grandchildren; and sisters, Edna Laws of Lorain and Shelby Fern of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara D. in 1992; parents, Hubert and Annie Burdette; brothers, Clyde, Bob and Ed Burdette; and a sister, Norma Lowe.
Friends will be received Monday, May 13, 2013, from 6 to 8 P.M., at Dicken Funeral Home, 323 Middle Ave., Elyria. A funeral service will be Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 11 A.M., at College Heights Baptist Church, 980 North Abbe Rd., Elyria, OH 44035, with Pastor Darrell D. Deer officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
