Lucy and Bill Papp of Lorain celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary! The couple were married May 16, 1953 in St. Ladislaus Catholic Church, South Lorain, by the Reverend Zoltan Demko. A celebratory Mass and reception were held Saturday, May 18, 2013 at St. Frances Cabrini Church in Lorain.
Lucy Papp, the former Lucy Wohrle, keeps busy being a homemaker. She enjoys reading, gardening, senior aerobics, Tai Chi, and church activities. Mr. Papp is a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. He retired from U.S. Steel, after 36 years as a carpenter. His hobbies include golfing, woodworking, genealogy, exercising, and computers. Mr. and Mrs. Papp are members of St. Frances Cabrini Church and Silver Sneakers.
They have four children, Mark of Phoenix, Arizona, Cathy (Louie) Ciehanoski of Amherst, Cindy (Jim) Griffiths of Kent, and Christine of Lorain; three grandchildren, Amanda Wilt, Jaron Detchon, and Erica Hanko; and one great grandchild, Hayden Detchon.
In celebration of their special day, an almost life-size photo of the bride and groom greeted approximately 100 guests from across six states. Surprise guests included the bride’s sister, Miriam and niece, Paulette.
