The Chronicle-Telegram took home a number of awards in the annual Ohio Associated Press Media Editors newspaper competition Sunday in Columbus.

The 2012 honors saw The Chronicle, which was judged in Division III for newspapers with a daily circulation of 13,000 to 24,999, take an even dozen first-place awards in categories ranging from Best Columnist and Best Sports Writer to Best News Writer and Best Enterprise Reporting.

The Chronicle’s first-place awards included:

  • Best Columnist: Andy Young
  • Best Editorial Writer: Andy Young
  • Best Sports Columnist: Scott Petrak
  • Best Sports Feature Writer: Scott Petrak
  • Best Sports Writer: Scott Petrak
  • Best News Writer: Lisa Roberson
  • Best Enterprise Reporting: Chelsea Miller
  • Best Spot News Photo: Bruce Bishop
  • Best General News Photo: Bruce Bishop
  • Best Page One Layout
  • Best Sports Event Coverage
  • Best Daily Sports Section

The Chronicle’s sister newspaper, The Medina Gazette, also captured awards in Division II for newspapers with a daily circulation of 8,000 to 12,999.

A total of 67 daily Ohio newspapers submitted 2,742 entries in the contest, which featured news and sports stories, features, editorials, columns, graphics and photos.
