ELYRIA — Joseph Worthy was sentenced to five years in prison Monday after pleading guilty to a rape charge for sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman in January.
An additional kidnapping charge against Worthy, 36, was dropped as part of the plea deal.
The victim originally told police that a stranger, later identified as Worthy, had kidnapped her off the street possibly at gunpoint and taken her to a vacant home where he forced himself on her.
But police later determined that the woman went to the home willingly as part of a drug deal.
Worthy had insisted after his arrest that the sexual encounter with the woman was consensual.
