Leonard Whitfield, 88, of Elyria, left to be with the Lord Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Western Reserve Hospice of Westlake, after a short illness. He was born September 16, 1924 in Whitfield, Alabama. He was a resident of Elyria for many years.
He was a self employed carpenter and drywaller. He was the fifth of 10 children born to Fannie Johnson Whitfield and Charles Silvanus Whitfield in Whitfield Alabama. He enjoyed helping people in need. He was very active and jolly and you would always catch him with a smile on his face until his health began to fail.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Fannie (Johnson) Whitfield; sisters, Essie Whitfield, Ethel Whitfield; brother, Hardy Whitfield; and son, Henry Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories, two sisters, Rosemary Junior, Velma (Rubin) Kendrick; sons, Micheal Love of California, Perry (Wilma) Williams of Oberlin; and his stepchildren, Linda Hawthorne of Marietta Georgia, Michelle Gilchrist of Elyria, Stephanie and Cynthia Williams of Lorain, Dwight O (Lenora) Williams, Micheal R. Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews and grandchildren and great grandchildren and friends.
Friends may call Monday, June 3, 2013, at 11 A.M., in the Mount Zion Baptist Church, 614 W. River Rd., Elyria. Services will follow at Noon, Pastor Cunningham will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
