Donald “Red” Woods, 89, of Grafton, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Keystone Pointe in LaGrange, after a long illness. He was born January 18, 1924 in Lodi, and lived in the Grafton area over 50 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater as a torpedo retriever and target mover. He was employed by Balsam Concrete as a driver, until his retirement in 1993. He also drove cement tankers. He was a member of VFW Post #1079 in Elyria and a member of the Teamsters Local. He enjoyed woodworking, model airplanes and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dora; daughters, Judy (Ken) Olic of Elyria, Pam (Todd) McCreaery of Nova, Karen Woods of Elyria; and sons, Chris (Glynn) Woods and Randy Woods, both of Grafton. Survivors also include six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, P.J. and Ethel Woods; and by one brother.
Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, from 6 until 8 P.M., where funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., on Thursday, June 6, 2013. The Reverend Delaine McGhee, Pastor of the Grafton United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, in Avon.
