Anthony “Peg” L. Coats

CoatsAnthonyAnthony “Peg” L. Coats, 48, of Elyria, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 2, 2013. He was born in York, Alabama, coming to Elyria 30 years ago.

He was a graduate of Sumter High School in Alabama, class of 1983, where he played varsity basketball and football. Mr. Coats was employed as a crew manager for Burger King Corp. in downtown Elyria and North Olmsted. He enjoyed barbeques, was an avid card player. He enjoyed movies and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his mother, Nellie Mae McCoy of York, Alabama; companion, Patricia Wohlever of Elyria; children, Antonio Ward, Anthony, Jr. of Lorain, Rhyven Coats, Victor Watkins of York, Alabama, Naashon Coats, Tiara and Kayla Coats, Antonio, Jamal Harris, Darryl, Michael Cannon of Elyria; three grandchildren; brothers, Clarence (Peggy) Coats, Leon (Amy) McCoy, Ray Jackson of Mississippi; sisters, Teresa McCoy, Anne McCoy of York, Alabama; nephews and nieces, Jasper, Andre, Mario, Fredrick, Robert, Jr., Keisha, Pam, Shannon; and a host of other nieces and nephews and family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leon McCoy of York, Alabama; son, Dominique Coats of Elyria; and a cousin, Debbie Austin of York, Alabama.

Friends may call Monday, June 10, 2013, from 6 to 8 P.M., in the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, 127 West Bridge St., Elyria. Services will be Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in the Second Baptist Church, 427 Chapman Lane, Elyria, with Rev. Mark Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.

Memorial funds, in the name of Anthony Coats, may be made at any First Merit Bank.

    to the family of Anthony Coats i am very sorry for your loss, I had not met Tony yet because my Daughter is marrying his brother Clarence in Sept. but from what i have heard i would have loved him, i pray that the holy spirit surrounds you and comforts you during your mourning period, i am continually keeping you all in prayer.
