MONTVILLE TWP. — A man was injured when a 16-year-old driver from Avon Lake hit his motorcycle after going through a red light Wednesday night, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Lt. Bill Haymaker said a 2006 tan Jeep Liberty driven by Matthew Sarko, 16, of Avon Lake, was turning left from the exit off Interstate 71 onto state Route 18 at 10:14 p.m. Sarko went through a red light and hit a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was traveling east on Route 18, Haymaker said.

The motorcycle’s rider, Carmen Cassella, 56, of Fairlawn, was taken to Medina Hospital then transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center by emergency helicopter, where he was listed in good condition Thursday.

Sarko has been cited with failure to yield and driving outside restrictions, because he was driving with four other teenage passengers, Haymaker said.
