Andy Kaczay, 86, of Elyria, died Friday, June 7, 2013 at New Life Hospice Residential Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, following a short illness. Born December 25, 1928 in Elyria, he was a life long resident of Elyria, living with his brother Ted.
He graduated from Clearview High School in 1946. Andy served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War and served as a Seargent in the 17th infantry. Andy was the co-owner of Kaczay Brothers Builders in Elyria for 40 years, retiring in the late 1980′s.
He was a founding member and builder of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post 1079 in Elyria and the American Legion Post 12 in Elyria. He enjoyed traveling and going to casinos with his good friends.
Surviving are his brothers, Ted of Elyria and Steven of Wellington; sisters, Olga Slanczka of Elyria and Sophie (Ed) Habeck of Sullivan; many many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Basil and Anna (nee Mazurik) Kaczay; brothers, Nicholas, Will and Walt; and sisters, Catherine Gradish and Mary Kaczay.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 10, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M. in the Dovin Funeral Home, 2701 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. Rev. Donald Dunson, of St. Vincent de Paul will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Veterans of Foreign War Post 1079 will conduct military honors.
