SHEFFIELD TWP. – The state Route 254 bridge over the Black River was shut down for some time this morning as the Sheffield Township Fire Department worked to rescue a man who was hanging over the edge.

Sheffield Township Fire Chief Joe Bandagski said the Fire Department was called to the Garfield Bridge at 9:45 a.m. to assist the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office in rescuing a 19-year-old man.

Bandagski said the man was hanging off the edge of the bridge, and it took approximately 20 minutes to pull him off of it.

The man, who was not injured, was taken to EMH Elyria Medical Center for evaluation.

His name is Sergio Gutierrez. He has been my friend since we were in 6th grade. He is okay and for you to be the world’s ticked off person because they didn’t say his name is wrong. You want his name, now you got it. Now leave him alone and quit being selfish
