Helen Thornton Dostall (nee Roka), 83, was born and raised in Elyria and died Monday, June 10, 2013 in Spring, Texas, surrounded by her family. Helen was born in Elyria on July 7, 1929 and lived here for most of her life.
She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. She was employed by Ridge Tool Co. in Elyria for 40 years retiring in 1992, when she moved to Our Mothers Sorrowful Shrine in Bellevue, where she continued to work helping with pilgrims and the priest needs. She was also a member of the Companions Club and the Women’s Catholic Study Club in Bellevue.
She is survived by two sons, Dean (Debbie) Thornton and Matthew (Sheila) Thornton; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frederick Thornton; her second husband, Robert Dostall; and all her brothers and sisters.
Helen spent her whole life praying and serving others. She was a devout catholic.
Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Friday, June 14, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M. Closing prayers will be in the funeral home Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10:15 A.M., followed by Mass at 11 A.M., at St. Teresa Church, 1878 Abbe Road, Sheffield Village, with the Reverend Father Edward Smith, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria, next to her family.
