Lillie Mae Hamilton (nee Lumpkin), 95, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, in the Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain, following a lengthy illness. She was born May 20, 1918 in Commerce, Georgia and lived in the Lorain area since 1927.
She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Lorain, where she served on the kitchen committee. She was a former employee of U.S. Steel Lorain Works, during WWII, and worked as co-owner of the former LaRoyal Restaurant in Lorain.
Lillie was a homemaker who enjoyed making salads, baking cakes, gardening, taking care of flowers, and babysitting children. She also loved to do crafts, including sewing and quilting.
She will be sadly missed by her godson, Earl S. Harris of Lorain; her caregiver-cousins, Mary Logan of Elyria and Donald Flanders of Lorain, and cousin, Fred Lumpkin of Lorain; devoted friends, James and Ora Ross and Juliet Lee of Lorain; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Hamilton; parents, Horace and Flossie Lumpkin; sisters, Zenobia Wheeler, Viola Lumpkin, Dear Ree Clark and Willie Ree Cain; brother, Veollie Lumpkin; and stepmother, Jeffie Lumpkin.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2013, from 11 A.M., until the time of funeral service at 12 P.M., at Friendship Baptist Church, 2160 Reeves Ave., Lorain. Pastor John R. Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
