James Maynes, 78, formerly of South Amherst, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Lorain, following a long illness. He was born April 3, 1937 in Barbourville, Kentucky. James had lived all of his adult life in South Amherst.
He was employed at the Cleveland Quarries. James loved fishing and being outdoors. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Gayle Maynes (nee Reed); his daughter and her husband, Linda and David Reinhart of Amherst; his grandchildren, Amanda and Christopher Reinhart, Danelle Sowders, Dakata Green, Devon and Darian Maynes; his brothers, Harold Ray Maynes of Barbourville, Kentucky, Ancil Maynes of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; his sisters, Mildred Mahan of Siler, Kentucky, Shirley Boyd and her husband Glen and Hazel Henderson both of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Maynes; his brothers, Daniel Maynes, Troy Maynes; his sisters, Germaine Maynes, Willie Jean Morrow, Imagene Maynes, Annetta Maynes; and his parents, John Will and Martha Jane Maynes (nee Osborne).
Friends may call Tuesday, June 25, 2013, from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 10 A.M. at the funeral home. The Rev. Gary Lunsford, pastor of South Amherst First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
