Have you checked out the fitness walks yet?

Get your fitness on this summer! No gym membership? No problem! Walking is the most popular form of physical activity in the United States and is a great way to improve overall health. A study conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 60% of adults now choose to get physically active by walking. The good news is, you don’t need a gym membership to do it!

Take a step towards a healthier tomorrow by joining us every Monday at the Lorain County Fitness Walks. Walking has benefits beyond weight control, including lowering your risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, depression, and some cancers.

By joining the Lorain County Fitness Walks, you will become part of a weekly walking group that offers an opportunity to get moving and meet new people. In July, the fitness walks meet at 5:30 p.m. outside of the Lorain County Metro Parks Splash Zone, 95 West Hamilton Road in Oberlin. Walkers will have the option of walking outdoors, or indoors to beat the summer heat.

No membership is required and all ages are invited to join. Each walker receives a bottle of water and a chance to win prizes for participating. Walk with WOBL/WDLW on-air personalities and get to know fellow walkers. You are welcome to join a walk whenever you have time in your schedule; a weekly commitment is not necessary.

Lorain County Fitness Walks is a walking program that was established just over a year ago in coordination with the Lorain County General Health District, Lorain County Metro Parks, Mercy Health Partners and WOBL/WDLW in order to provide the community with greater access to engage in physical activity, while also contributing to improving the overall health of local residents.
