Sunday, June 23

2:14 p.m. — Big Lots, 1020 E. Broad St., a woman said her bag, with house and car keys, driver’s license, credit card, prepaid cell phone, $20 in bank envelope and miscellaneous papers inside, was stolen from her shopping cart. She shopped with her back to her cart and after hearing a noise, turned around to find her Vera Bradley purse missing and a box of cereal placed in the cart. At 5 p.m., the assistant store manager said an employee found the purse, with keys and a cell inside, in the toy aisle.

7:39 p.m. — 300 block Oberlin Road, a woman said someone gained entry into her apartment and stole her daughter’s blue Gateway laptop. She told police she had left her home at 11 a.m. and returned at 7:05 p.m. to find her front door unlocked and the laptop missing. Officers did not find any damage from a forced entry.

8:41 p.m. — 100 block Williams St., a woman said 10 to 12 solar landscaping lights, which were in front of her house the day before, were missing. She does not know of any suspects. During the interview, several nearby residents approached the officer and said solar lights also were taken from their home.

9:15 p.m. — Ramada Inn, 1825 Lorain Blvd., Justin Dotson, 21, 1000 block Oakwood Drive, George English Jr., 46, 1700 block E. 29th St., Lorain, each arrested and charged with assault. Dotson’s father, whose face was covered with blood according to police, said he and English argued over a darts game and English repeatedly punched him in the face. Surveillance video shows English punch Dotson and then Dotson tackled English and punched him 20 to 30 times, police said.

Monday, June 24

12:17 a.m. — 100 block Lincoln Court., the neighbor of a woman whom police said had blood on her left leg, said the woman was attacked by an ex-boyfriend in his home. The neighbor said the man was choking the woman and she hit the man with the hammer and the woman ran out of the home. The man, who police didn’t identify, has previously been charged with abduction in a case involving the woman, police said. The woman refused medical attention.

1:17 a.m. — Cleveland Avenue, a 17-year-old boy charged with a curfew violation and possession of marijuana.

Thursday, June 20

2:21 a.m. — North Leavitt Road near the Amherst Post Office, Jonathan Harris charged with lighted lights required, no seat belt, possession of synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Tuesday, June 11

4:01 p.m. — 300 block of Salem Drive, a man reported that his girlfriend stole his upper dentures during an argument and she refused to give them back. Police were investigating.

7:15 p.m. — Showse Park, three adult men cited for disorderly conduct for allegedly throwing rocks at a group of juveniles on the fishing pier.

Friday, June 14

1:36 a.m. — Liberty Avenue, a driver arrested and charged with driving under the influence, no name given.

3:50 a.m. — Ohio Street, two boys were arrested and charged with unruly juvenile and a curfew violation. Police said the boys were observed running in Victory Park and they hid from officers in the tree line between Columbus Street and the railroad tracks.

10:22 a.m. — Vermilion River, officers were sent to handle a diesel fuel spill on the Vermilion River near the public boat docks. Police said the fuel spill was less than 10 gallons and unrecoverable due to the small amount of fuel in the large area of the river it covered.

12:21 p.m. — 600 block of Woodside Ave., a woman reported she had received a threatening phone message from another woman. Police were contacting the suspect involved.

6:17 p.m. — 300 block of Salem Drive, a man reported that his co-worker had been harassing him and fired him through text message.

Saturday, June 15

12:51 a.m. – 5600 block of Liberty Ave., one person was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct following a fight at Rudy’s Bar and after being told to leave several times, no name given.

2:54 a.m. — 1400 block of Sanford St., officers were sent to investigate a possible breaking and entering of an abandoned home that was for sale and found that the 16-year-old daughter of the homeowner had snuck in with a large group of friends for an underage drinking party. Police said five juveniles and two adults had consumed alcohol.

6:46 p.m. — Public boat ramp, a man arrested and charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct persisting and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, no name given. Police said the man was causing a disturbance at the boat ramp.

10:09 p.m. — 700 block of Woodside Ave., a driver arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence after allegedly striking a pedestrian with a vehicle. The pedestrian was treated for minor leg injuries.

Sunday, June 16

2:38 p.m. — 1200 block of Sanford St., a driver was cited for driving under suspension and attention after he said he fell asleep while driving, causing him to strike several cement poles at Vermilion High School.
