Harold E. “Ed” Gouge, Jr., 59, of North Ridgeville, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013, at St. John Medical Center in Westlake, following a short illness, which he fought with dignity and lost with pride. He was born September 6, 1953, in Cleveland, was raised in Cleveland and had resided in North Ridgeville for 37 years.
Ed was a 1971 graduate of John Marshall High School in Cleveland. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Navy from 1971 to 1974. He was currently employed as the Finance Manager at Mike Bass Ford in Sheffield and was the former Finance Director at Ed Mullinax Ford in Amherst. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Elyria Masonic Lodge #787, of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland and of the Lorain County Scottish Rite Society. He was also a member of VFW Post #1079 in Elyria and the American Legion Post in North Ridgeville. He enjoyed traveling, camping, yard work and spending time with his beloved family.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Barbara (nee Knight) (formerly Stanley); one daughter, Rachel Qualls of North Ridgeville; two sons, Jim Stanley (Tammy) of South Amherst and Brandon Stanley of Elyria; two granddaughters, Madison and Grace of South Amherst; two grandsons, James of North Ridgeville and Mason of South Amherst; many nieces and nephews; his wife’s family, whom he was very close to; Ruby Knight, Leroy and Margie Knight and Debbie and Jay Rice, all of North Ridgeville; many friends at Mike Bass Ford and by his best friend, his dog, Abby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold E. and Georgia A. (nee Pace) Gouge; his sister, Janet Simpkins; and his father-in-law, Thurman Knight, who joined him the same day on his journey to Heaven.
Ed’s family wishes God’s blessings on all the angels at SJMC, UHHC and Hastings, for the excellent care that Ed received. He was our gentle giant.
The family will receive friends Monday July 1, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Road (at Stoney Ridge Rd.), North Ridgeville, where members with the Elyria Masonic Lodge #787 will conduct a memorial service at 8 P.M. The funeral service will be Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 10 A.M., at the funeral home, with Reverend Kevin Crow, Pastor of Harvest Ridge Church in North Ridgeville, officiating. Burial will be at Ridgeville Cemetery in North Ridgeville, where members from VFW Post #1079, in Elyria, will conduct full military honors.
