Fire Chief Ray Anthony said his department was called to 27305 Royalton Road at 1:41 a.m.
They arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters got the fire under control within about 45 minutes but remained on scene until 10 a.m. as they put out hot spots and waited for the state fire marshal to arrive.
“It wasn’t safe to walk in,” Anthony said of the house.
Nobody was living in the home, and it was being worked on, Anthony said. He estimated the home was about 100 years old.
Anthony didn’t have a damage estimate, but the Lorain County auditor’s website lists the home’s value as $137,790.
