Esther Montes, 80, of Lorain, passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at her home in the presence of her loving family, while under the care of New Life Hospice. She was born on February 9, 1933 in Ciales, Puerto Rico to the late Antonio Rosario and Ambrosia Zayas. In 1955, she came to Lorain where she resided her remaining life.
Esther was a very active member of Sacred Heart Chapel, including a member of the Society of Ladies of the Rosary, and being a lector and choir member of the church. She also was involved with the Cursillos de Christiandad and was a Profesora of the Cursillos. An accomplished seamstress, Esther owned and operated “Midway Bridals by Esther” in Elyria for many years, retiring in 1998. Prior to owning her own business, she was employed as a seamstress at Joseph and Feiss and Dalton Industries, both in Lorain. Esther volunteered her time with the American Heart Association and the March of Dimes. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, music and was an avian enthusiast, raising and breeding cockatiels for many years.
She is survived by her devoted husband, to whom she would have been married to for 62 years on November 17th , Carlos I. Montes, Sr.; her children, Maria de los Angeles (Edwin) Roman, of Lorain, Carlos Ismael, Jr. (Barbara), of Rockledge, Florida, Juan Antonio (Gina), of Miami, Florida Jose Rafael (Debra), of Lorain, Migdalia Ambrosia “Yayi” (Kevin) Helsley, of Elyria, Esther Isabel (Bill) Rufo, of Lorain, Olga Milagros (Daniel) Foushee, of Westerville, Ohio and Ruben Elias, of Columbus, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; her brothers, Felix Rosario and Antonio Rosario; and her sister, Sara Gonzalez, all of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Evelio Rosario; and her sisters, Dorin Rosario and Rosa Morales.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Closing Prayers will be said Wednesday, July 3 at 8:45 A.M. in the Funeral Center followed by Funeral Mass at 9:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. William Thaden, Pastor, will officiate.
