He was a 1941 graduate of Brownhelm High School. He served in the US Army during World War II, serving in the Military Police in the 41st Infantry in the Pacific. He worked as a sheet metal worker out of Local #107 in Vermilion, where he had also served as President. He retired in 1988 after 25 years. He was member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wakeman, the AMVETS, American Legion, Retiree Club Local #33, and the Mildred Early Senior Group. He loved gardening and family get togethers.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gladys (Holzhauser); his children, Michael (Dorie) Tansey, of Vermilion, Cecelia (Joe) Nestor, of Wakeman, Carolyn (Jerry) Moeller, of Fremont, Indiana, Joanne Martin, of Clinton, Ohio Anna (Jimmie) Bentley, of Wakeman, Lee (Deanna) Tansey, of Wakeman, Margaret Bellis, of Vermilion, William (Tami) Tansey, of Elyria, Judy Tansey, of Vermilion, Wanda Tansey, of Elyria, Patricia (Ron) Tadaj, of Chesterland, Ohio; 36 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Anna (Strehle) Tansey; siblings, Margaret Shafts, George, Frank, James, Robert, and Charles Tansey, and three grandchildren.
Friends may call on Tuesday July 2, 2013 from 4 to 8 at the Morman Funeral Home, 16 Cooper Street, Wakeman. A Mass of Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, July 3 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church on Main Street in Wakeman. Burial will take place at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery.
