Amherst police

Friday, June 21

9:20 a.m. — 400 block Sunrise Drive, police were sent to a home after a complaint from the Amherst Building Department about junk in the front yard. An officer advised the homeowner to clean up the items and to replace an expired license plate on a vehicle that was parked illegally in the yard. The officer returned a week later and the yard wasn’t clean nor was the license updated. The officer attempted to serve a citation, but no one answered the door.

Saturday, June 22

12:24 a.m. — North Leavitt Road at state Route 2, a juvenile cited for underage consumption during a traffic stop.

Monday, June 24

5:57 p.m. — Kresge Drive, Richard Cole, of Amherst, arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence. Police were called to a shopping plaza after a witness reported that Cole, who appeared to be bleeding, staggered into his vehicle.

Wednesday, June 26

2:13 a.m. — 100 block Elyria Ave., Joshua Butinsik arrested and charged with violating a temporary protection order.

5:08 p.m. — North Leavitt Road, John Samson arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence. Lloyd Cascada charged with alcohol-related offenses. Police said an officer attempted to stop Samson for driving erratically, but he did not stop for the officer’s signal. Police said Samson and a passenger, Cascada, threw beer bottles from the vehicle while they were followed by the officer.

Friday, June 28

2:51 a.m. — 1000 block Rome Beauty Drive, Michael Giacopelli arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and failure to control after allegedly striking a vehicle parked in the street.

3:29 p.m. — 300 block Claremont Road, reported burglary.

Wednesday, June 19

3:37 p.m. — 200 block Kensington Road, fight between two juvenile females.

3:42 p.m. — 1900 block Claus Road, theft of eight shotguns and rifles during a home burglary. Evidence was collected and police are investigating.

Thursday, June 20

1:09 a.m. — 5100 block Devon Drive, a woman reported that when she returned home, she noticed her window was open and jewelry was missing from her jewelry box.

7:40 p.m. — 4400 block Liberty Ave., reported theft of a purse from a shopping cart at Giant Eagle.

11:02 p.m. — 300 block Salem Drive, theft of jewelry from a residence. Police said it was determined that entry into the home was made through a window.

Friday, June 21

3:26 a.m. — Berkley Road and Edison Drive, one man, no name given, arrested and charged with disorderly conduct persisting after a fight between two men in the street. Police said the man who was arrested was taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center.

4:21 a.m. — 3200 block Liberty Ave., Steven Syrowski arrested and charged with drug abuse, possession of drug abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Police were sent to the area for a disturbance and found Syrowski yelling and screaming in his kitchen by an open window.

11:22 a.m. — 3700 block Edgewater Drive, theft of an outdrive from a boat while the owner was on vacation.

Saturday, June 22

2:03 a.m. — Liberty Avenue, Tony Salva arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and driving under suspension.
