Domestic violence suspect fought with officers, police say

LORAIN — A man was arrested after a fight with a police officer, who allegedly sprained his thumb in the scuffle.

The suspect, 22-year-old Deshawn Turner, was arrested at 1:39 a.m. Sunday outside of Erieview Motel. Police said Turner was with his girlfriend, Brittany Harter, who ran out of the motel screaming for help. A witness, who heard the Harter’s screams, called 911.

Harter told police she asked Turner to move over in the bed so she could lay down when he started punching her in the face, according to a police report. Harter said Turner ripped her car keys and money from her pocket and later chased her into the bathroom, where he choked her, at which time she blacked out.

Police said Turner exited the room when officers arrived at the scene, and he began walking “aggressively” toward an officer. Turner allegedly struggled with officers during his arrest, and according to the police report, an officer received a sprained thumb after Turner bent it backward.

Turner, who received some injuries after the officer punched him in the face, was treated by LifeCare.

Turner would not comment on the incident with Harter, only stating that he “didn’t do s—.”

Turner was charged with domestic violence, assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and obstructing official business.
