Father cited for child endangering

Shreves

Shreves

ELYRIA — Police arrested a man who was sleeping Sunday morning after finding his two young children playing in the roadway unsupervised.

Officers were sent to the 800 block of Broad Street at 8:10 a.m. Sunday after a woman called police to report that two children were outside her home, running around without adult supervision. The woman and her neighbor told police they tried communicating with the children but were unsuccessful.

Police said the boys, ages 2 and 5, were dirty, and the 2-year-old was wearing a diaper with feces in it and no shoes. The older boy, who is autistic, had trouble communicating with officers, according to a police report.

Lorain County Children Services was notified of the incident, and the boys’ father was contacted at his home on Broad Street.

The father, Herman Shreves, 28, was cited for two counts of child endangering. Police said Shreves was sleeping when officers made contact with him.

at least he didnt leave them home alone, he was sleeping thats something some people cant help. if mother nature says sleep then thats what happen

    • Bill Willis

Same ignorant comments you were making under another name. You have children under your supervision as young as these were and one of them autistic then you do not fall asleep leaving them to run the neighborhood. Ever.

      • hottamomma

u r very ignorant!. learn how to read! i never said it was alright. i said at least he was at home. probably unlike u. u wouldve been at thebar drinking. he had an autistic child, which probably tired him out, im sure he didnt mean to go to sleep, and no its not alright. u r making things up in ur head.

        • Bill Willis

You were justifying something that should never ever happen and by doing that you are saying it is alright, You are what is wrong with society. Always an excuse. As Joe Smith said above, a $4.00 chain lock or a host of other available safety devices in place and you wouldn’t have young children running around unattended. It doesn’t matter if he went to sleep on purpose, You have a responsibility when you fathered these children. Now step up and take care of them. Is the next story about these children going to be about them being snatched or hit by a car? I hope not.

          • hottamomma

no it never shouldnt of happen, but sh*t happens.(except for u of course u do everything right). as u can see the kids r young and hes just learning how to be a father and i bet he has a $4.00 chain lock on the door now. its just a learning situation. he just had a lesson, now its time to learn. i wouldnt down grade him for being a beginner father. he has to lern like everybody else. u r the one justifing he is an idiot, just because he is a new father, which is sick to me. instead of downgrading him, give him tips like joe smith did!

I am a narcoleptic single mom of a three year old and I have NEVER taken a nap while she was awake. There is no excuse for it, a child unattended is not safe..in the home or when they escape outside. My sister is a single mom of a five year old autistic child and she has NEVER taken a nap while he was awake. You hottamomma, could be the next person we read about if you take naps and leave your small children unattended.

          • hottamomma

it was early in morning when it happen so they probably got out before he woke up. i would never. but of course u and ur sister are perfect and made no mistakes!. well the rest of us r human and we make mistakes, as long as people learn from their mistakes. quit accusing people of being bad parents cause they made a mistake, instead try to teach them how to be a better parent. especially since u r perfect!

      • hottamomma

oh yeah i had this name on disqus for 2 yrs now, so whats ur point? mental?

      • angel4400

Hold on Bill, I happen to know this guy. He is a hard working guy that the mother of his children and him split up and he has the kids. He was probably exhausted and it happened to be that time the kids decided to adventure out. You know well the papers build stuff up to “sell” their reports to public. As for soiled diapers, the child could have just done that and not have been in it long. As for being dirty, duhhh they were outside. Instead of condemning him, I give him credit, it was just a circumstance that shouldn’t have happened but it could have been just one of those rare times that come along in life, like nobody has been in situations like that or similar? I wish him the best on his outcome.

        • hottamomma

thank u angel4400. i was almost sure he didnt go to sleep on purpose

        • Wow

There we go again with the “he is a good guy, hard working great dad”, blah, blah, blah. By the way, is this the same gentleman who is up for 2 felony counts of rape and gross sexual imposition?

          • wife

First of all those charges have nothing to do with case and he was found not guilty on those charges so what does it have to do with this.

          • Joe Smith

He was not found not guilty, the charges were dropped because the victim stopped cooperating

          • angel4400

There was NO reason to bring that up “Wow”. It only makes YOU look stupid, because if you know that much then you know the outcome of the case. Looks like someone just looking to start problems.

  • Joe Smith

A $4 dollar door chain placed at the top of the door out of reach will stop this

  • Brittney Sorton

Parents are suppose to protect there kids so nothing bad happens to them…but parents are now to often putting there own kids in danger and putting there own needs first!

  • brazengal

so judgemental. I am not seeing where this has happened before. Yes, it shouldn’t have happened but give the guy a chance to rectify the situation before you judge him as a bad father. It was early in the morning and having been a kid myself (apparently Bill Willis never was) I know that kids sometimes wake up before their parents and get into all kinds of mischief. It’s sad that these kids went outside to do it. I’ll bet this man has already installed some sort of childproof locks on his doors. I’m also sure he has had the scare of his life. If we see something like this again, then that will be the time to judge him, not now! Give him a chance for God’s sake!

  • wife

Ok I know him very well he is a very hardworking and loving father and would do anything for his kids. There is no parent out there that can say that they have been up every waking minute that there children have been awake kids do get up and get into things without you knowing it. Like someone else has said at least he didn’t leave them home alone like many parents do and this happened early in morning. So before people start running there mouths maybe you need to know the hole story.

    • wife

And to make another thing clear here he was never arrested so here goes to prove where the media wants to take and turn stuff around. I’m not saying what happened should have happened but it goes to prove where people don’t have there facts and want to run there mouths.

      • Joe Smith

Not being arrested means nothing, I hope you are right and he learned a lesson

        • wife

Yes he did get arrested on the other chargers which he was found not guilty on BUT HE DID NOT get arrested on this, and I do know my facts!

          • Cassie

12CR084424: THE ABOVE REFERENCED CASE IS DISMISSED WITHOUT PREJUDICE DUE TO THE LACK OF COOPERATION OF THE VICTIM

            http://cp.onlinedockets.com/loraincp/case_dockets/Docket.aspx?CaseID=29070

get your facts right or no one will take you seriously.

          • wife

it doesn’t matter why it was dismissed it was dismissed I think I know the facts and why keep bringing this up it has nothing at all to do at with what is going on at hand there is people on here talking about stuff that they know nothing about I know him personally and I know what happened

          • hottamomma

You are probably a worthless meth head like him.

          • hottamomma

u ^^^^ must be on meth since u had to use my name(hottamomma) to hide urself

          • hottamomma

@wife, i did not write that at the bottom, it was someone using my name cause they were to scared to face it their self
