Lorain native shot to death in Columbus

COLUMBUS — A former Lorain resident was shot to death outside of his Columbus home on July 3.

Brian Vura, 29, was shot outside of his home on Medary Avenue, said Sgt. Rich Weiner, spokesman for the Columbus police.

Weiner said officers were called to the area at 12:41 a.m. July 3. He would not comment on the investigation, but he said no arrests have been made yet.

Vura graduated from Admiral King High School in 2001, and he grew up in Lorain, according to his obituary. Vura moved to Columbus 10 years ago to attend Ohio State University, and he managed the Hang Over Easy Diner on campus for the past five years.

According to Hempel Funeral Home’s website, Vura was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing baseball, softball and golf. He also enjoyed cooking.

A service for Vura will be at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst, at 6 p.m. Saturday. Prior to the service, calling hours will begin at 2 p.m.

    I have known Brian for many years. He will be missed and my condolences to all his family and friends. He was always such a smart and well behaved child and I am sure that he would have gone far if this had not happened. We can only hope that the person responsible is caught and made to pay for such a senseless act of violence.
