Donald R. Hafferkamp, 82, of Elyria, peacefully passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain. Don was born June 19, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, moving to Elyria in 1940.
He was employed as a material handler at Ridge Tool Company for 35 years, retiring in 1990. He attended Elyria High School graduating in 1948. Don was inducted into the Elyria Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the 1947 EHS Football Team. He played halfback wearing jersey #49. He attended Castle Heights Military School. Don played minor league baseball with the New Castle Indians. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Evelyn, visiting family and casinos on their journey’s.
Don is survived by his sister-in-law, Betty Hafferkamp; niece, Amy Carroll; nephews, Mark Hafferkamp, Kurt Haffferkamp, Bruce Hafferkamp, Brian Hafferkamp and Karl Hafferkamp.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (nee Clark) Hafferkamp in 2003; son, Dennis Hafferkamp; brother, Jack Hafferkamp; and his parents, Howard and Eva (nee Rowden) Hafferkamp.
Inurnment was in Brookdale Cemetery.
