George J. Steirer, 76, of Lodi, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Hospice of Medina County. He was surrounded by his family, friends, love and laughter. Born February 24, 1937, to Joseph and Helen (Bayer) Steirer, George grew up in Mallet Creek, Ohio, on the family farm.
He graduated from Buckeye High School in 1955 and was a member of the 1954 Buckeye Co-Championship football team. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps.
On January 18, 1964, he married the love of his life, Ruth (Claycomb). They enjoyed 49 and a half years of marriage, traveled the world together and have spent the past eight years wintering in Sebring, Florida. George retired from Applied Products after more than 40 years of service.
His pastimes included golf (George shot his first hole-in-one in 2012), gardening, church and attending his grandson’s sporting events and activities. He was a member of Lafayette United Methodist Church. George lived a full life, cherished his family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all.

George is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughters, Brenda (Ken) Rambo of Columbiana, Ohio, Mary Ann (Terry) McMahon of Huntington Twp.; seven grandsons, Chris, Kyle and Daniel Rambo of Columbiana, Thomas Rambo of Portsmouth, Virginia, James (Laurie) McMahon and Gus McMahon, both of Huntington Twp., Michael McMahon of Kanapolis, North Carolina; great granddaughter, Allison McMahon; brothers, Victor (Joanne) Steirer of Medina; twin brother, Andrew (Kathy) Steirer of North Ridgeville; also a host of loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 12 Noon at the Lafayette United Methodist Church, 6201 Lafayette Rd., Medina, OH 44256. Pastor Floyd Costello will officiate. Burial will follow at 2 P.M. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the church, from 10 A.M. to 12 Noon.
