Norman U. Gerhart “Pow”

GerhartNormanNorman U. Gerhart “Pow”, 84, of North Ridgeville, passed away Friday, July 12, 2013 at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake. He was born December 17, 1928 in Eaton Twp.

Norman was a retired Union Sheet Metal Worker. He was a member of St. Peter Church in North Ridgeville. Norman was an excellent gardener and was well known for his produce stand at the family homestead. He liked watching baseball and was one of the founders of Palmer Field. He was involved in Hot Stove Baseball and was a past president of the North Ridgeville and Lorain County Hot Stove for many years, he was inducted into the Ohio Hotstove Hall of Fame, and received the Ohio Hot Stove Cy Butler Award, as well as the Golden Kernal Award. He also worked with Pee Wee football.

Survivors include four daughters, Sheryl Searcy of Elyria, Susan McAuliff, Mary Durst, Norma Adams (Keith), all of North Ridgeville; two sons, Robert (Anna) of Elyria Twp. and Joseph of North Ridgeville; additional survivors include 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and sister, Marcella Baldauf of North Ridgeville.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Mona Lou (nee Warner); son, Charles (Molly); his parents, Joseph and Christine (nee Conrad) Gerhart; two sisters, Sr. Thelma Gerhart and Bernice Miller; and two brothers, Donald and Al.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 P.M., Thursday, July 18, 2013 at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria, where closing prayers will be at 9:30 A.M., Friday, July 19, 2013. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 A.M., Friday at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, 5500 Lear Nagel Rd., North Ridgeville, OH 44039. Rev. Fr. George Vrabel, Pastor will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery, North Ridgeville.
