Trayvon Martin rally Saturday in Lorain

In response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman, who shot and killed 17-year-old African American Trayvon Martin, the International Council for Urban Peace, Justice & Empowerment Inc. of Lorain County has organized a rally to memorialize his death and the deaths of others in the county.

Peaceful demonstrations aiming to draw attention to racism in the U.S. legal system have sprouted up across the country since Zimmerman’s trial closed.

“We’re taking momentum of other rallies to point out some of the injustices that happen locally,” said co-organizer Marcus Atkinson.

The county rally is 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday in Veterans Park, downtown Lorain.

“We’re being proactive not reactive,” said co-organizer Imam Paul Hasan, describing the rally as a fight for right versus wrong. “We must work together to address these concerns and see change in our community.”

For more information, contact Hasan at (440) 258-3114.

In this country, you’re a racist until you prove you’re not. SMH

    • Zen Grouch

Once an idiot slaps a “Racist” label on ya’, no way you’re gonna prove anything different to the hoards of numbskulls out there.

…your avatar is racist, you filthy swine! ;)

      • Larry Crnobrnja

Racism is in the eye of the beholder. When I see Chief Wahoo, I think baseball. What enters your mind?

        • Zen Grouch

When I see Chief Wahoo, I’m reminded of Cleveland when it wasn’t a bad place to live.

Plus, I was yankin’ your chain…

…the winkie thing should have been the give away.

          • Larry Crnobrnja

Yeah, I didn’t see the winkie until after I replied. Chain yanked. :)

Trayvon would not have been shot if he didn’t attack Zimmerman. It was probably a hate crime Trayvon didn’t like Hispanics, he was the racist.

Where were the protests when Casey Anthony was acquitted? Caylee was an innocent child. Where will it be so I know to avoid that area?

  • Renee

Where were the protests when Casey Anthony was acquitted? Caylee was an innocent child! Or is it only for when blacks get killed by another race?

    • http://3chicspolitico.com/ SouthernGirl2

Why didn’t you organize a protest?

  • Bob Sweatt

Well I know where I won’t be on Saturday.

Just a reminder of what happens at these rallies.

    • Traci

Not true, Bob. That was in Texas; I organized and co-organized two rallies for Trayvon Martin last year in downtown Elyria, and both were peaceful and positive.

      • Bob Sweatt

Yes I am sure they were peaceful, LAST YEAR. Before the verdict came out.

Cut to a year later, people are rioting and not being peaceful. So no thank you. I will be staying far away from Lorain. Far far away.

        • Traci

Plan on staying away from downtown Elyria on Monday then, as well. There is another rally being held there for Trayvon and anyone who has lost someone due to violence. :)

          • Bob Sweatt

Well see I work during the day so I will be far away.

And it’s not just Trayvon. I could show you an example of other story just like the Zimmerman/Martin story. But none of those stories made national attention. Ask yourself why that is.

it’s because you are all focus on that story that you wont get much attendance from certain races.

When I see this story being talked about just like the Zimmerman/Martin story. Then I will be more then happy to attend any rally you all plan.

That is about the funniest sentence in the whole story. Because a few of these so called peaceful demonstration didn’t end very peacefully.

  • Mike Rush

why is george not named as an hispanic american?

  • Mike Rush

oh yea, you guys just want to push the rayciss agenda…

  • Americaschild

sad that there is so much hate and stupidity! sadder that the President of the United States is responsible for the divide…he is evil!

  • johndemirjian

all the negroes will be there.

  • KZ14

Protest what? He was high on drugs and Zimmerman isn’t white so where does this hate come from? This isn’t our business so let’s stay out of it.

Where is the justice rally for Antonio Wests 17 year old murderers:

    Hello. Don’t recognize me?
    That’s OK; I understand.
My name was Antonio West. I was
the 13-month old child who was shot in the face at point blank range by two
black teens, who were attempting to rob my mother, who was also shot.
I think my murder and my
mommy’s wounding made the news for maybe a day, and then disappeared.
A Grand Jury of my mommy’s
peers from Brunswick, Georgia ruled the black teens who murdered me will not
face the death penalty… too bad it was me who got the death sentence from my
killers instead, because Mommy didn’t have the money they demanded.
See, my family made the mistake
of being white in a 73% non-white neighborhood, but my murder wasn’t ruled a
    ‘hate crime
    Oh, and President Obama didn’t
take a single moment to acknowledge my murder. He couldn’t have any children
who could possibly look like me – so why should he care?
I’m one of the youngest murder victims in our great Nation’s history, but
the media didn’t care to cover the story of my being killed in cold blood.
There isn’t a white equivalent of Al Sharpton, because if there was he would be
branded a ‘racist’. So no one’s rushing to Brunswick, Georgia to demonstrate
and demand ‘justice’ for me. There’s no ‘White Panther’ party, either, to put a
bounty on the lives of the two black teens who murdered me.
I have no voice, I have no
representation, and unlike those who shot me in the face while I sat innocently
in my stroller – I no longer have my life.
    Isn’t this a great country?
So while you’re out seeking ‘justice for Trayvon’, please remember to seek
‘justice’ for me. Tell your friends about me, tell your families, get
tee-shirts with my face on them, and make the world pay attention, just like
    you did for Trayvon.
    I won’t hold my breath.
    I don’t have to anymore.
