Martha Grantham (nee Colbert), 87, of Elyria, entered into rest Sunday, July 21, 2013, at Center Ridge Nursing Home, North Ridgeville. Martha was born to the late William C. and Mary Jo (nee Taylor) Colbert, on October 13, 1925, in Cleveland.
She was a graduate of Elyria High School and obtained an Associate Degree in Accounting, at Lorain Business College. She was a lifelong resident of Elyria and worked at Chapin Truck Lines and later, retiring from Erie Shores Girl Scout Council, as a bookkeeper. She was an avid reader and loved learning about history. She also enjoyed traveling and working crossword puzzles. Martha was a Jehovah’s Witness for 28 years and attended the Elyria East Congregation, on Chestnut Ridge in Elyria.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Kirkland Grantham, Sr. (May 2012); brother, William (Buddy) Colbert; daughter, Brenda Grantham; and grandson, Kirkland Grantham III.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory two sons, Kirkland Grantham II (Sharon) and William Grantham (Diane) of Elyria; four daughters, Dawn Frazier, Denise (Ira) Perkins of Elyria, Sylvia Grantham of Charlotte, North Carolina and Jean Thomas of Detroit, Michigan; 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; two great great granddaughters; and a host of loving friends. She will be greatly missed.
Services will be held Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second Street, Elyria. Viewing hours will be from 11A.M. to Noon, with the funeral service immediately following. Elder Frank Uliano, of Elyria East Congregation and Randolph Smitko, of Elyria West Congregation will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery.
