Obama appoints Sutton to lead shipping corridor

CLEVELAND (AP) — President Barack Obama plans to appoint a former Ohio congresswoman to lead the government-owned St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp., which runs the American side of the shipping corridor.

The White House announced Wednesday that the president will name Democrat Betty Sutton to the administrator’s job based in Washington, D.C.

The Seaway links the Great Lakes and the North Atlantic.

Sutton represented an Akron-area congressional district from 2007 to 2012. In 2012, she lost a re-election bid to incumbent Republican Jim Renacci (reh-NAY’-see) in a redrawn district.
