(Lois) Barbara Evenchik

Evenchik_Barbara(Lois) Barbara Evenchik (nee Gelman), 89, of Oberlin, passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday July 27, 2013. She was born July 25, 1924 in Lorain.

Barbara was the former owner of Gel-Pak in Lorain, and founder of Bronze Artifacts Inc., and owner of College Park Manor Apartments in Oberlin. She enjoyed and supported the arts, especially musical arts, and had served on numerous boards, such as The Cleveland Ballet, Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland International Piano Competition, and was an early supporter and guarantor of The Metropolitan Opera. She loved hosting parties, and travel. Barbara was a member of Temple B’Nai Abraham in Elyria

Survivors include a daughter; Bonnie R. Ivancic (Bill) of Elyria; and a son, Dr. Bruce G. Evenchik (Reba) of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Additional survivors include nine grand children; 10 great grandchildren; and a brother, Alvin Gelman (Marilyn) of Boca Raton, Florida.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Marvin in 2003; and a brother, Jack Gelman.

Funeral Services will be 10 A.M., Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57) Elyria (440)322-4626, where Rabbi Lauren Werber, of Temple B’Nai Abraham, will officiate. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Lorain. Family will receive friends at 7 P.M., on both Tuesday, July 30, 2013, and Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the home of Bonnie and Bill Ivancic, 534 Washington Ave., Elyria, OH 44035.
