ELYRIA – The registered sex offender accused of fatally shooting Anthony Coats on June 2 has been indicted on aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence and weapons charges.

Elyria police believe Tove Adams was upset because he suspected his girlfriend was cheating on him in the hours before the shooting and opened fire when Coats pulled into Tattersall Court to drop of the girlfriend, Sara Colon.

Adams allegedly fired his gun four or five times at Coats’ Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Coats was struck once in the side and his car traveled a short distance down West River Road before hitting a tree and coming to a stop. He died shortly afterward at EMH Elyria Medical Center.

Adams fled the scene and away arrested the next day.
