Hazel was raised in the Elyria and Amherst area, graduating from Central High School in Amherst with the class of 1938. She made her home in South Amherst for the last 69 years.
Her primary focus in life was that of a homemaker. Hazel worked along side her husband at Pete’s Henrietta Service station, which sold, gas, groceries, and farm tires for over 20 years before it closed in 1970. She also worked at Pike View Green House in Amherst Township. Hazel was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ, in Amherst. In her younger years, she served as a girl scout leader in South Amherst for many years. She loved animals, and previously raised Cocker Spaniels. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, and camping.
Survivors include her three daughters, Karen Lippe of Oglesby, Texas; Kathleen Michaels of Elyria, and Kristy (William) Guild of Wakeman; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; and her sister in law, Ruth Murdy of Amherst.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Lyle Avon “Pete” St. Peter on January 22, 2012; her parents, William and Anna Murdy (nee Holzauer); her brother, William R. Murdy in 2007; and her sons-in-law, Herbert Lippe and Donald Michael.
Friends may call Tuesday, August 6, 2014, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at 1 P.M., at the funeral home. The Reverend Mark Pemberton, Pastor of St. Peter United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
