Fatal stabbing overnight in Lorain; suspect jailed

LORAIN — A Beavercrest Drive man is dead and his girlfriend is in custody following a stabbing overnight.

Lorain police were called at 2:35 a.m. today to the emergency room at Mercy Regional Medical Center, where 40-year-old Jerome Phillips was being treated for stab wounds, police Lt. Roger Watkins wrote in a news release. Phillips later died from his injuries.

Police determined that the stabbing had taken place at Phillips’ apartment at 5520 Beavercrest Drive, the release said.

Phillips’ live-in girlfriend, 30-year-old Anna Carter was arrested for the killing and has been charged with murder and felonious assault.

The investigation into the slaying is still ongoing, Watkins wrote.

So sad…I wish people could resolve their disagreements without violence. Two lives forever changed; families torn apart because of this. Friends will never get to talk to him again…she’s probably going to be looking at jail time. People, stop and think…is it really worth it?

For a woman to stab anyone to death is rare, but a lover..there has to be a very deep pain and hate, but love at the same time I think. Crime of passion, I would find it highly unlikely that it was not provoked in some way. Still a tragedy and sad that it got that serious. I hope that peace can find the hearts of their loved ones.
