Robert “Bob” J. Conn, 82, of Elyria passed away Monday, August 12, 2013, at St. John Westshore Hospital in Westlake, following a brief illness. He was born January 19, 1931 in Donora, Pennsylvania, and was a 1948 Donora High School graduate.
Bob served with the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a supervisor for American Airlines in October of 1987 after 30 years of service. He worked at Cleveland Hopkins Airport, O’Hare Airport in Chicago, Illinois, and as a security guard for the Cleveland Browns. Bob and his wife moved to Elyria in 1963, after residing in Detroit, Michigan, and Arlington, Virginia. He especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, fishing and travel.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Eileen (nee Lisko), whom he married July 7, 1951; two sons, Douglas (Cindy) of Avon, Craig (Kathy) of Elyria; and a daughter, Leslie Conn-Kaminski (David) of Keller, Texas. Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Tyler, Erin, Whitney and Kolbie; four sisters, MaryAnn Garvin of Scottsdale, Arizona, Vickie Powers of Ocean Isle, North Carolina, Lois Daniels of Sparta, New Jersey, Donna Leapley of Alexandria, Virginia; and two brothers, David Conn of Shepherdsville, WestVirginia, and Anthony Conn of Ellsworth, Pennsylvania.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Bertha (nee Kurmolwich) Conn; and a sister, Roslyn Sampler.
Family will receive friends from 9 to 11 A.M., Saturday, August 17, 2013, at The Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria, (440)322-4626, where funeral services will immediately follow visitation at 11 A.M. Reverend Father John G. Vrana, of St. Jude Church, will officiate. Burial will be private at St. Joseph Cemetery in Avon.
Memorial contributions, in Bob’s memory, can be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
