Dorothy Joann Pierce (nee Lux), 74, of Elyria, passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at Wesleyan Village in Elyria, while under the care of New Life Hospice, following a lengthy illness. She was born April 14, 1939 in Pontiac, Michigan.
Dorothy was raised in Michigan and as a teen moved to Pasa/Robles, California where she graduated from high school. Dorothy attended Ferris State College in Michigan where she met her husband Clifford, to whom she was married for 36 years. She moved to Elyria where she made her home since 1982.
Dorothy was employed at Sears as an Supervisor in Accounting for 29 years before retiring in 1997. After retirement she worked part time at J.C. Penney’s at Midway Mall. Her hobbies included gardening, reading and writing poetry.
Survivors include her son, James J. Pierce of Summerfield, North Carolina; her daughters and their husbands, Brenda and Michael Sadowski of Amherst, LuAnn and David Kljun of Hinckley; grandchildren, Michael, Derek, Matthew, Rachel, Evelyn and Joseph; two great grandchildren; her brother and his wife, Stanley and Genevieve Lux of Las Vegas, Nevada; her sister and her husband, Rosalie and Floyd Koenig of Wooster.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Edward Pierce in 1995; and her parents, Joseph and Eleanore Lux (nee Spongberg).
Friends may call Monday, August 19, 2013 from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. The Reverend Floyd Koenig, her brother-in-law, will officiate. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
