Tommy B. Ramey, 80, of Spencer, passed away Friday, August 16, 2013, at Hospice of Medina County, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 4, 1932, in Elkhorn City, Kentucky, to Verlon and Belle (Spears) Ramey.
He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Panama and overseas. While on furlough, Tommy met his future wife, Mellie Conley, and seven days later they were married. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before Mellie passed away in April of this year. They made their home in Spencer for the past 50 years.
Tommy retired from Ohio Edison, following 38 years of service, where he was a general supervisor.
In 2001, he was elected to serve as Mayor of Spencer, a position he held up until the time of his death. He thoroughly enjoyed working with his constituents, the Police Dept. and village officials and was very instrumental in a number of projects for Spencer, including the founding of the Firestone Park. He served several terms on Village Council and was a member of the Spencer American Legion Post #608 and Spencer United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Spencer Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his sons, Ed (Patty) Ramey of Lodi, Donald (Colette) Ramey of Polk, Ohio; grandchildren, Jonathan (Sherrie) Schuck of Powell, Ohio, Josh (Kim) Ramey of Polk,
Samantha Ramey of Polk, Parker Ramey of Lodi; great grandchildren, Austin and Brayden Schuck and Bryar and Kendall Ramey; brother, David (Carolyn) Ramey of Prospect, Ohio; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mellie; daughter, Billie Jo Schuck; infant granddaughter, Sandra Ramey; sister, Marie Stiltner; and brothers, Jim, Lonnie, Bill and Audra (Herk) Ramey.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at 11 A.M., at the Spencer United Methodist Church, 201 East Main St., Spencer. Reverend Lenore Robinson, of Spencer, will officiate. Burial will follow in Spencer Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, August 19, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M., at the Spencer United Methodist Church, 201 East Main St., Spencer.
