Cedar Point cancels wedding promo after protest

SANDSUSKY, Ohio — An amusement park in Ohio is canceling a wedding contest after a gay couple organized a protest against the promotion.

Cedar Point amusement park initially limited the contest to male and female couples because it said state law doesn’t allow gay couples to legally marry in Ohio. A spokesman says the park decided to cancel the event once it started to take on political undertones.

The amusement park that sits along Lake Erie in Sandusky had planned to select 13 couples to get married there on Friday the 13th in September.

A gay couple from Akron told The Sandusky Register that they wanted to enter until seeing the rules. They then asked people online to contact the park in hopes of getting the rule changed.

  • http://comradealan.com/ Alan Pugh

Cedar Fair is the least homophobic company I know. They employ hundreds of LGBT employees. The couple from Akron needs to pick up a newspaper… we’re still in the marriage equality struggle in Ohio, and an amusement park can’t override the law.

    • FireFlyJAM

13 people think you’ve made a valid point. So, just exactly how many companies do you know that aren’t “Homophobic”? An exactly how many hundreds of “LGBT” employee’s does Cedar fair employ? Come on. I’m curious now. Is it 3 hundred ? 4 hundred ? 7 hundred ? An how exactly do you come up with the information that your persuading us is factual. Was there a survey ? Do you have any more info on Cedar Fair employee’s ? Are you friends with Edward Snowden ? I’m just askin’, I’m not really curious.

      • FireFlyJAM

Edward Snowden is the traitor who told everyone and anyone, who couldn’t remember The Patriot Act, that our government protects us. Whether we like it or not.

        • FireFlyJAM

At least 13 people, most likely, didn’t know that.

          • fahkir1

            Then rotational lever yourself.

        • Joe Smith

Snowden was a whistleblower who advised the people of the US that the gov was spying on them and the persons who drafted the Patriot act stated this was not an intended use of the act.
The US should be going by the Constitution and get a warrant to surveil a US citizen under probable cause.

          • FireFlyJAM

“The persons who drafted…” lol Could you share your sources, dude.

          • fahkir1

More proof that you liberals don’t care about the facts. When you have no argument, you resort to name calling and lies. Real Americans are getting tired of you.

          • Joe Smith

You can’t respond intelligently so you sling an insult, typical. So Constitution loving Americans are terrorists? ….sigh

      • fahkir1

Try to stay on topic. What exactly does Snowden have to do with Cedar Fair? Oh, I forgot. You liberals don’t care about facts. You manipulate the numbers to serve your anti-American purposes.

        • FireFlyJAM

          I’m not a liberal. I am a heretic.

          • fahkir1

            Same mental disorder.

  • stop ur whining

So great that this cool event is being ruined by a few morons that feel neglected. Should gays be able to marry? Sure, whatever, I don’t really care. But is it recognized by the state? Sure isn’t. So until then, just shut up and stop trying to use your own agenda to ruin something fun. Alan is right, CP employees a number of Homosexuals and have strict rules on harassment and what not. Once again the hyper-sensitive minority ruins something for the masses. These complainers are probably one of the gay couples you see at CP all over each other in the park, hugging, kissing etc…. They feel the need to show everyone their intimate side for whatever the reason.

I know that people will read this and think i am a gay basher. Funny thing is i am not, i hate when i am at CP and any couple is messing around in front of me. PDA is the most retched thing to watch regardless of sexual orientation.

    • Michael A. Figueroa

Sounds like you’re a little bit jealous because no one’s loving on you…

      • stop ur whining

sounds like sombody is upset that they cant marry their BF.

      • stop ur whining

let me guess, you and that land monster your pictured with are probably a couple at cedar point grossing everyone out. Or maybe my first thought was correct. After years of marriage to that beast you realize that you are gay. Which i would understand bc your woman…wooof. Btw, i get plenty of love from the ladies, unlike you, its not time to put me out to pasture. hahaha.

    • FireFlyJAM

This one time at band camp…there were these two girls…Ah, never mind you don’t wanna even hear about it. Let alone see it. It was hot though. Just like you see online.

      • stop ur whining

a comment like that makes me wonder what you are really jamming. hahaha. face it. your in the closet at best.

  • hottamomma

i should start protesting at gay events, and ruin there events. i think i will stsart at the gay games. i also dont anything against gays but they r going waaaaay to far, they over do it!

    • Michael A. Figueroa

Instead of spending time protesting gays, perhaps you should spend some time learning to compose a sentence and how to use spell check.

      • hottamomma

the only person im worried about is god, and the only person who cares about a spell check is a human that has nothing else to do with there lives but worry about other peoples spelling( boring life)

    • fahkir1

Let us know. We will support you. I am so sick and tired of these garbage being thrown in our faces.

    • FireFlyJAM

“…they over do it…” wtf lol omg

    • FireFlyJAM

I will give you a ride to the next one as long as I can record your lilly sass saying and doing whatever your going to do. I’ve never been to one, but it’d be very entertaining to watch you “give it to’em”

This disgusts me. Stuff like this is the very reason some people are against anything the gay community tries to do. Just because you’re gay doesn’t give you the right to ruin it for everyone else. Instead of picketing an amusement park that is trying to put a fun event on, perhaps you should continue the fight in Columbus where it actually matters. Congrats on your victory idiots.

  • Guest

I hear they were considering trying to breed a cat with a dog there if this union proved successful.

    • FireFlyJAM

Did it work when you tried it ? Well then, it’s probably not going to work when they try it either. Besides, were debating gay rights not your beastilality fetishes.

  • fahkir1

Since when did the minority rule the majority.

    • fahkir1

Oh, sorry. They don’t have to follow the law.

      • Michael A. Figueroa

How, exactly, are they not following any laws?

        • fahkir1

Gay marriage isn’t legal in the state of Ohio. But you don’t care. You just want to throw your self imposed rights in our faces. Your the lowest of the low.

    • FireFlyJAM

When we got past the 10th grade.

      • fahkir1

But you haven’t graduated from elementary school yet.

  • Den724

Well since Cedar Point ruined a good thing for us heterosexuals, we should let the gays support them for a while. Why not organize a heterosexual boycott of Cedar Point for the month or September. We stay home and let the gays and lesbos and trannys go to the point for the month. Lets see who Cedar Point listens to next time.

    • Michael A. Figueroa

I predict utter failure in this endeavor.

    • Guest

They’re planning a protest… they have rights too, which means the peaceful and joyous day would probably be anything but that! It stinks that everyone else has to suffer, but it was supposed to be a fun contest…

    • hottamomma

      thats a great point!

  • Bill

You can’t get married if you are gay in the State of Ohio. Pretty straight forward. Cedar Point again caving. They renamed their 2 Halloween attractions because of pressure from another group. I’m sure with Cedar Point it isn’t about political correctness but the potential loss of revenue. Sad what everything has come too.

  • Chris B.

Why punish everyone? State law does not allow it. Its not Cedar Point’s fault. Who ever protested should be ashamed.

  • FireFlyJAM

I would presume by these posts, the people in northeast Ohio who visit The Chronicle telegram webpage, that they do not like you gay people very much. I got your back though. I will completely ruin anyone’s day tomorrow who I know is biased towards gays…unless my boss is around.

    • hottamomma

i do like gays, i just dont like them trying to change meaning of words, like marriage for example its between a man and a woman, so dont change it, make up ur own word. i have 2 good friends that r gay but they also c my point of view and they say most gays over do it a bit, even though i say they over do it a lot

      • http://comradealan.com/ Alan Pugh

Marriage started out as a sexual relationship between an elder man and a very young boy in ancient Greece, before Christianity was invented, so you may not want to use that as your defense.

        • seanmacnair

Yeah, umm, you’re going to have to prove that one.

        • hottamomma

Were u there? im talking now a days not back before dinosaurs

          • http://comradealan.com/ Alan Pugh

Before the dinosaurs? Holy cow. People weren’t around before the dinosaurs.

        • Beth

I believe in Biblical marriage: Man and his rib, man and his multiple wives and concubines, man and his slaves, Man and kidnapped girls.

          • Pablo Jones

Well since marriage didn’t become religious until well after Christianity became established you could say those negative issues were cultural. And what cultures were around in those biblical times?

          • FireFlyJAM

I studied the bible quite a bit and I’m pretty sure Jesus thought of marriage as religious, Moses too. There were plenty of cultures already established at that time. omg Use Bing or Google the next time and find out. Must be the imposter Pablo posting such non-sense.

          • Pablo Jones

The bible talks about taking a wife. I don’t recall where a religious person blessed the wedding. People weren’t going to Temple, or other religious locations to get married. Weddings weren’t about love or a union in God’s eyes. It was about 2 people getting together for the benefit of their family. Many times the lucky couple knew very little of each other.

          • FireFlyJAM

John 4:16. Pretty sure marriage was holy to that guy. I’m all for putting a limit on how many times someone can get married. 5 times sounds good to me. I mean, if your spouse kept dying of natural causes; there could be exceptions.

          • Pablo Jones

And where was marriage talked about? As I said marriage and church were not tied together until several hundred years later. And after that it became part of the cannon law.

          • fahkir1

            Didn’t know you could read.

        • Pablo Jones

And people started out as an egg. That doesn’t mean we should wrap people up in a pad and throw them in the trash.

The etymology of the word marriage shows it has only been around since 1200ad. The base words leading up to it are Latin not Greek. Also the first recorded marriage ceremony between 1 man and 1 woman took place around 2300 BC in Mesopotamia.

          • FireFlyJAM

At least you looked that up on Bing or Google , before you posted it. I don’t buy the egg part though. Humans evolved when apes mated with a unspecified ancestor. At least that’s what we teach, in our school system.

      • FireFlyJAM

I doubt you have 2 gay friends. Most likely you know 2 gay people who tolerate your gibberish.

    • stop ur whining

u r an idiot. my post, and all the ones you are commenting on are not bashing gays. they are bashing a hypersensitive group of complainers. Fact: it is illegal for homosexuals to marry in the state of Ohio. So again, FACT: a day at Cedar Point for MARRIED COUPLES would obviously not be for the gay community. If and when the law is changed, it will again be obviously different. In regards to you, forgive me previous reply, as it was not PC. I will simply say this.

As i stated yesterday, i have no problem with gay marriage. It makes sense for many reasons including tax and insurance purposes. That being said, you sir are no different than the far right, and far left. you are a zealot for homosexuality. You believe it is all about you and your needs. You will always be a member of a group of hypersensitive homosexuals that, just like the hypersensitive republicans and hypersensitive democrats try your best to ruin things for the masses, bc heaven forbid they might be intended for a group that you presently do not belong to. You do the gay community a great disservice each and every time you open your mouth.

      • FireFlyJAM

        lol with my mouth closed.

        • fahkir1

You make the most sense with your mouth closed.

  • FireFlyJAM

This is the shunniest fit I’ve read, in a good minute. omg.

  • FireFlyJAM

This woulda been a hoot, if it was about polygamists protesting.

  • FireFlyJAM

What if it was Cedar Points goal to stir up the gays ? You know, kinda light a fire under their gay shoes. Antagonize them a bit. I mean, of all the conspiracy theories you’ve heard this year, it’s not out the question. It could be some sort a hidden, top secret, gay agenda, to rile them all up, so they start speaking out. They probably knew this was going to happen. Next thing you know they’ll be accusing the government of distributing crack cocaine into their neighbor hoods. Gay people. Sheesh, I’m so glad I was born heterosexual. You gay people have it tough.

    • hottamomma

yeah thats for sure! im glad im hetero sexual also, this gay stuff is just tooooooo much

      • FireFlyJAM

        too*

  • Zen Grouch

Not that I have a horse in this race, but how is it celebrating the sanctity of marriage by having a freak show on Friday the 13 where 13 “lucky” couples tie the knot… for ever and ever?

This is just asking for trouble, if you’re superstitious or not.

  • Beth

Well it’s simple: open the contest to any two consenting adults, the straight couple can have a wedding and the gay couple can have a commitment ceremony. I don’t think anyone is homophobic at the company, they were just following the current law.

    • FireFlyJAM

It’s not homophobic. It’s discrimination. Nice try though.

      • stop ur whining

nothing discriminatory about it. It is the LAW. You can say that gays should marry. You can shout it to whoever you want but until it is changed, the law is the law. Gays cant marry. Deal with it. All you are doing is making yourself look dumber. You want to marry a guy, great, good for you. But the fact remains that you cant do it in ohio.

        • FireFlyJAM

          Slavery was law once.

  • Joe Smith

So this was stopped by the gays who say we should all be tolerant by being intolerant of what Cedar Point wanted to do?

    • stop ur whining

      love it, brilliant retort.

    • FireFlyJAM

It was stopped by Cedar Point. My goodness, if gays had that much control…lol They changed it because they realized the state of Ohio was not tolerant of gay marriage, and they are. Obviously. You really think they thought, “Oh no ! Gay people will no longer come to Cedar Point ! Gay people will be upset with us! We’re going to lose millions !”
No. I don’t think that was why they changed it. They changed it, because after some thought, they don’t want people to think they’re like you. And that’s what’s really going on.

      • stop ur whining

no moron. They reversed their decision bc they did not want gays outside their gates with picket signs using a fun event to publicize their efforts to be heard. I am all for protest, but take ur signs to the state capital. The simply did not want bad press from a group of hypersensitive whining babies.

Keep running your mouth firefly. You are giving every person reading this a reason to hate gays. stop trying to jam your agenda down everyone’s throat. that is what this is really about.

“im gay and i want to be able to get married at cedar point…mom, why cant i get married at cedar point. I love my bf and he loves me. Why mommy, why?”

That is exactly what every gay who whines about gay marriage sounds like.

I told two of my gay friends about this article. Their response

“fa9s ruin everything for gay people. “

  • hottamomma

cedar point shouldnt have never bowed down to them, that just gonna give them more leverage. the gays r reminding me of another type of people, this aint fair that aint fair. this aint right that aint right. im gonna protest this im gonna protest that. just tit for tat. get over it already.

    • FireFlyJAM

You an a bunch of other terrorists think the same way.
