On Friday, August 16, 2013, Ruth E. Plowden (Jackson), 82, of Lorain, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at new life hospice, following a lengthy illness. Ruth was born to Eleanor and Willis Jackson, Sr., October 22, 1930 in Elyria, and was a resident of Elyria, before moving to Lorain.
She attended Elyria High School, graduating in 1948. After high school she started working as a master cook. She worked for several establishments as a cook for many years. She then worked as a cleaning matron for Lorain City School and board of education before retiring in 1983. Ruth was also a faithful member of Church on the North Coast, Lorain.
Throughout her adult life and motherhood, Ruth and her husband, Paul fostered 86 children, they taught them how to become productive young men and women in society, she love and cared for each and every one of them as if they were her own biological children. Besides fostering children, she enjoyed cooking, traveling, singing gospel music, reading the Bible and spending time with her family.
She leaves to cherish her memories her six children: daughters, Inetri Colvin, Carolyn (Gary) Plowden of Lorain, Chantay Chapman of Elyria; sons, Donald, Paul Jr. and Rodney Plowden, all of Lorain, 86 foster children; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and many other grandchildren stemming from her foster children and cousins, Nettie Mae Jackson and Norita Chaney; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by parents, Eleanor and Willis Jackson, Sr.; husband, Paul Plowden, Sr.; son, Gary Plowden; adopted daughter, Darlene Parks; grandson, Sheldon Thompson; sisters, Ester Board, Eunice Jackson and Rita Mason; brothers, Leon Jackson, Harry Jackson, Ronald Jackson and Willis Jackson, Jr.
Friends may call Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 2 P.M. until time of service at 4 P.M. at the Church on The North Coast, 4125 Leavitt Rd., Lorain. Pastor Louis Kayatin will officiate service.
