Sylvia J. Ridge (nee Marianito), 76, of Amherst, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at The Cleveland Clinic. She was born June 3, 1937 in Rehoboth, New Mexico to the late Frank and Tille (nee Morgan) Marianito, she lived the early part of her life there and at the age of 16 moved to Colorado Springs. From there, she moved to Pennsylvania and finally settled in Amherst in the late 1950′s. Sylvia worked at Allen Memorial Hospital in Oberlin.
She began her career in dietary department and then worked in central supply. She retired in May, 2009 with over 39 years of service. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Auxiliary #1442 in Amherst, Amvets Ladies Auxiliary Post 22 and VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 7576, both of Vermilion. She was active in the Senior’s Bowling League, Sylvia bowled at Stoney’s Bowling Alley in Elyria and recently at Rebman’s in Lorain. She loved going to casinos and internet cafes and also enjoyed crocheting. Sylvia enjoyed watching all sports on TV, especially her favorite team, the Denver Broncos. Her favorite passion was cooking, even creating some of her dishes at all hours of the day or night. She loved to share her cooking with her family and friends, delivering to them and announcing “meals on wheels”.
She is survived by her daughter, Cherie Ridge; and her son, Eddie Ridge, both of Lorain; and her sister, Inez Morgan of Gallup, New Mexico.
Besides her parents; she was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Marianito, Jr.; and her sister, Irene Charley.
The Ridge family will receive friends Saturday, August 24, 2013 from 4 to 7 P.M., in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Private inurnment will be held at a later date in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
