Thelma A. Stewart, 87, of LaGrange, passed away Wednesday evening, August 21, 2013, in Mercy Hospital in Lorain, after a long illness. She was born September 20, 1925 in Jonesville, Virginia, living in the LaGrange area since 1959. Mrs. Stewart worked for LaGrange Screw Products in the shipping Dept., retiring in 1986. She loved working with flowers, gardening, and collecting Avon jewelry. She also enjoyed talking with family and friends, and caring for her family home. She had a special interest in baking, especially her fried apple pies.
She is survived by two daughters, Patsy Bailie of Eaton, Ohio and Peggy Milburn of Spencer; one son, Billy Stewart of LaGrange; six grandchildren, Michael Stewart, Michelle Slosier, Jason Milburn, Mindy Halcovich, Michael Bailie and Jo Ann Nickell; eight great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Osborne of Wellington, Trula Brooks of Jonesvillle, Virginia; and two special companions, Baby 1 and Baby 2.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Shady in 1989; her parents, Walker and Mary Childress; and one sister, Mary Tomlinson.
Friends may call in the Blackburn Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Sunday, August 25, 2013, from 5 to 8 P.M., with funeral services Monday, August 26, 2013, at 11 A.M., in the funeral home, with Reverend Noel Hack, Pastor of First Baptist Church in LaGrange, officiating. Burial will be in River Road Cemetery, LaGrange Township.
