Lucille Cotton died peacefully at Medina Hospital, with her daughter, Diane, by her side – just two days shy of her 95th birthday. Lucille was born in Medina on August 26, 1918, to Howard and Carrie Rickard. She enjoyed having been born and raised in Medina and visiting the Rickard Brothers store on the square.
Lucille was a graduate of Oberlin Business College and used her skills for over 23 years as secretary of the LaPorte United Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member. She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles and a good game of cards or dominoes with friends and family. Lucille spent countless hours crocheting baby afghans, sweaters, and bonnets for the newborns of friends and family.
Lucille is survived by her daughter, Diane and spouse, Ralf; and her son, David, his wife, Joanne, Ocean Grove, New Jersey. Her grandchildren include Allison (Cotton) Baker and her husband, Paul; Daniel Cotton and his wife, Jessica; great grandchildren, Thomas, Luke, and Adam Baker and Emile, Micah, Selah, and Madeline Cotton. Lucille is also survived by her brother, Edwin Rickard and his wife, Pat; and her sister, Caroline, and her husband, John Schindelholtz; and many attentive and loving nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Robert L. Cotton; her brothers, Erwin and Corwin Rickard; and sisters, Ruth Wharton and Evelyn Lance predeceased Lucille.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2013, 11 A.M., at the LaPorte United Methodist Church. The ladies of the church are graciously providing a luncheon in the church hall, following the service. Interment will be the following day at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations, to the LaPorte United Methodist Church, 2071 Grafton Rd., Elyria, OH 44035, will be appreciated.
