Donald G. Binnie

BinnieDonaldDonald G. Binnie, 75, of Grafton, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 in EMH Healtcare, after a brief illness. He was born April 7, 1938 in Berea.

He was a member of the first graduating class of Midview High School in 1956 and he attended Baldwin Wallace College. He started his insurance career in 1961 and was a partner in Meyers, Homestead Binnie agency from 1979 to 1991. He had an office in Grafton since 1991 and remained active as a Financial Advisor. Don was referred to by many as “Mr. Midview”. During his high school career he participated in athletics, band, choir and theatre. His passion for Midview continued beyond graduation and he was a charter member and officer of the Athletic Booster Club. He served on the Midview School Board for 16 years. In 1980, he helped organize the Midview Athletic Hall of Fame and was it’s president for the first seven years. He was the Touchdown Club’s first recipient of it’s Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions and efforts to support the football program. In 2013, he was inducted into the Midview Athletic Hall of Fame for his numerous contributions to Midview over the years. He was a commentator for Midview athletic events presented by GLW Broadband and was often referred to as the ” Voice of the Middies “. Don was a long time member of the North Eaton Christian Church and was treasurer for the Elyria Chapter of the Gideons.

Don is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Todd) Daniell of Kennesaw, Georgia; son, Keith Binnie of North Ridgeville; sister, Jean (Luverne) Witherell of Elyria; one grandson; two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Ethel (nee Avins); and an infant daughter, Gay.

Friends may call in the Blackburn-Duke Funeral Home, 1021 Main St., Grafton, Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 A.M. in the North Eaton Christian Church, 35895 Royalton Rd., Grafton. Rev. Charles Butcher will officiate. Internment will be in Butternut Ridge Cemetery, Eaton Twp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Eaton Christian Church, the Midview Athletic Hall of Fame P.O. Box 209, Grafton, OH 44044 or to the Gideons International, in memory of Donald Binnie, P.O. Box 324, Elyria, OH 44035 to purchase Bibles.
