Frederick “Fritz” “Grampy” Hesemann, 87, of Elyria, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2013, at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain, following a brief illness. Fritz was born March 15, 1926 in Chicago Heights, Illinois. Elyria has been his home for the past 2 1/2 years. Prior to moving to Elyria, he lived in Wildwood, Florida for 27 years.
Fritz served in the United States Army. He was an Accountant/Business Manager for Owens Illinois for over 30 years. Fritz then worked as a Business Manager for Lake Ear, Nose, Throat practice in Leesburg, Florida for 10 years. Fritz was a Christian believer! He always had a strong faith and was a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He taught Sunday School for many years. He loved singing and music. Fritz sang in the Church choir and played oboe in the family orchestra. Fritz wrote a special hymn entitled “Sing Unto the Lord a New Song”. He was quite an athlete and played tennis, golf, baseball and basketball. Fritz loved to play tennis, and have a good laugh. Fritz could be fiercely competitive. He was kind and lived life with enthusiasm and optimism. Fritz was a voracious reader, reading at least three books a week. He also wrote many poems for whatever occasion and wrote hymns. He was an inspiration and loved by young and old.
Survivors include his sons, Mark Hesemann of Noblesville, Indiana, Jim and his wife Terri Hesemann of Smyrna, Tennessee; his daughter and her husband, Cathy and Allan Miller of Elyria; his grandchildren, Hans (Lindsay) Hesemann, Katie (Brett) Beitzel, Michael and Scott Hesemann, Holly (Alan) Sanker, Corrie and Casie Miller; one great-grandchild, Blakely; his sisters, Ruth and husband, Jim Dishop of Naples, Florida and Elsie Hanke of Bridgman, Michigan.
Fritz was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Velma Hesemann (nee Woelzlein); his brothers, Paul, Richard and Arnold Hesemann; his sisters, Edith Fischer and Dorothy Fisher; and his parents, Martin and Agnes Hesemann (nee Roeske).
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 31, 2013, 12 Noon, at Elyria Community Church of the Nazarene, 1107 Clemens Avenue, Elyria OH 44035. The Reverend George Gribben, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Westlake.
