Police investigating after man allegedly tried to approach 10-year-old girl

NORTH RIDGEVILLE – Police are searching for a black car involved in an incident in which one of the vehicle’s occupants allegedly got out and tried to approach a 10-year-old girl.

The child, who rode away on a bicycle, was not harmed.

Police were contacted by the girl’s mother after her daughter informed her of the incident, which occurred about 2:50 p.m. Monday on Stoney Lake Drive in the Meadow Lakes subdivision off Center Ridge Road.

“Some residents were aware of this happening as they recalled seeing the car in the area,” North Ridgeville police Lt. Marti Garrow said Wednesday.

A description was posted on the Police Department’s Facebook page Tuesday.

“We don’t know if this was a case of kids being really stupid or someone being more devious,” Garrow said.”We posted it to at least let them know we’re aware of this and aware of them.”

Garrow said police were not terming the incident an attempted enticement since the occupants of the car never spoke with the girl.

Several police cruisers responded to the area but were unable to locate the car, described as a “longer, dull black” vehicle with tinted rear windows.

According to information from the girl’s mother, one of the people in the car got out of the vehicle as if to approach the child.

“She apparently thought he was going to chase her, so she pedaled away,” Garrow said. “She lived about six to eight houses away.”

The car drove off in the opposite direction, Garrow said.

According to the girl’s description, the person who got out of the car also wore what the child said was a big black hat, which police think may have resembled a sombrero.

Residents are asked to stay alert to any suspicious vehicles, people or activity and to call police at (440) 327-2191 with any information.

Quit hiding and trying to catch people speeding and drive around in those cars that tax payers are paying for and you may see something, heck even roll the windows up and turn on the A/C
