Police: Shooting of young man with criminal background not random

LORAIN — A 26-year-old man with an extensive criminal history said he was shot in the leg by a stray bullet around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, but police don’t believe the shooting was random.

“Indications are he’s not being truthful,” Detective Orlando Colon said of Oscal Ventura.

Ventura went to EMH Medical Center Elyria, after being shot in or around the Westgate Apartments, 2310 W. 20th St., according to Colon.

Colon said Ventura – who has convictions for attempted felonious assault, domestic violence, resisting arrest and failure to register as a sex offender – has been uncooperative with police.
