Clara Delis Corogin, 85, of Vermilion, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at home, after a lengthy illness. She was born January 6, 1928 in Lorain, where she made her home until 1992 when she moved to Huron and subsequently to Vermilion in 2007. Her winter home was in Sarasota, Florida.
Clara graduated from Lorain High School (1945) and Baldwin Wallace University in 1949. Family was a primary focus of Clara’s life in addition to her interest in people and cultures. She was fluent in Greek and French and built her business as a Travel Consultant, traveling extensively throughout 60 countries and the United States.
Participation and leadership in community programs included her being a pioneer to the creation of a Blue Bird Trail in northern Ohio, saving the Lorain Lighthouse and most recently, Vermilion’s beautification and preservation of such assets as the Vermilion Water Tower. Church memberships include the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church (Lorain) and the Northminster Presbyterian Church (Sarasota, Florida).
In addition to her active participation in Irving School’s PTA, Lorain Public Library levy campaign, she was a member of the First Congregational Church’s Choir, 25 year volunteer at Lorain Community Hospital (now Mercy Hospital) and member of the National Audubon Society. Mrs. Corogin enjoyed golf and sailing and her personalized handmade cards were trademarks of hers.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Clara is survived by her husband of 64 years, her college sweetheart, John Corogin; her children are Cynthia Ann Corogin, Peter John Corogin (Dana) and Carolyn Corogin; grandchildren are AnnaLisa Corogin Rowe, Peter John Corogin II and Weston R. Corogin; Clara has three sisters, Georgia Delis Hook, Alekie Delis Bennhoff, Alexandra Delis Abrams;
She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter P. and Anna Yuresko Delis.
Guests will be received Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 5:30 to 8 P.M. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 6, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Church of Christ, Congregational, 990 State Street, Vermilion.
