Stephan (Steve) J. Koleszar

OBIT FLAGkoleszar_StephanStephan (Steve) J. Koleszar, 87, of Sheffield Village, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013 at EMH Healthcare. He was born in Lorain on October 17, 1925 and had been a resident of Sheffield Village for the past 12 years. He had previously resided in Avon.

Steve was a 1943-B graduate of Lorain High School. He went on to serve in the United States Navy during World War II where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Machinist’s Mate. He was the recipient of the American Area Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the World War II Victory Ribbon. Steve was a member of the Avon VFW Post #7035.

Mr. Koleszar was employed as a shop electrician at National Tube/U.S. Steel Corporation’s Lorain Works, he retired in 1982 following 39 years of service with the steel producer. He was a former member of United Steelworker’s Local 1104.

Steve was a parishioner of St. Teresa Avila Catholic Church in Sheffield, he was also a member of the Lorain Senior Fellowship where he enjoyed participating in both the bowling and lawn bowling leagues. A loyal fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns, Steve enjoyed attending family reunions. He was a former Cub Scout leader, Lorain Hot Stove League manager, and had previously served as a school bus driver for St. John Roman Catholic School in Lorain. Mr. Koleszar had been a Florida snow bird for 30 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Mariotto (Rick) of Lorain, triplets, Steven F. Koleszar (Karen) of Lagrange, Randall J. Koleszar (Debbi) of North Eaton and Marilynn R. Yagielo (Jim) of North Ridgeville; he also leaves grandchildren, James Yagielo (Rose), Jennifer Giancaterino (Scott), Jason Yagielo (Emily), Joe Yagielo, Chris Koleszar (Leslie), Michelle Propri, Jessica Koleszar; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Koleszar (nee DeLeese) in 2011; by his parents, Stephan and Helen (nee Bodnar) Koleszar; and by sisters, Helen Horchik in 2009 and Ella Bahn in 2012.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 3 to 7 P.M. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 4, 2013 beginning at 9:15 A.M. in the funeral chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 A.M. at St. Teresa Avila Catholic Church, 1878 Abbe Road, Sheffield Village. Reverend Edward Smith, Pastor of the church, will serve as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
