Charles Vernon “Harley Charlie” Archie

OBIT FLAGCharles Vernon “Harley Charlie” Archie, 65, of New Mexico and formerly of Lorain, died Sunday, September 1, 2013 at the Specialty Hospital of Lorain, after a long illness. He was born in Ironton on May 1, 1948, to the late William and Dora Archie.

He attended Clearview High School and then entered the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam in the 3/5 CAV 101st Airborne. When Charles returned from the service he was employed at the former United States Steel Corporation, Lorain for 18 years and then became a transporter for E & L Transport, Lorain, for 10 years.

During his lifetime he enjoyed fishing, western books, television and movies and his 1969 Chevy Truck “Old Blue”.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Tena K. (nee Lafferty); son, Todd Krase of California; daughters, Melissa (Michael) Kelley-Zaenglein of Lorain and Jessica Lafferty of Elyria; 11 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters, Pat Reynolds of Lorain and Peg (Charles) Howard of New Mexico; brother, Bill Archie of Ohio; and his pet chihuahua, “Chiquita”.

Private services will be held.

In Chuck’s memory, memorials may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 2600 Virginia Ave., NW, Suite 104, Washington D.C. 20037 or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN.
