Darlena (Tui) Sue (Goff) Mettler fell asleep Sunday, September 1, 2013 and woke up a short time later in Heaven, to be greeted by her husband, her mother, her brother, her sister-in-law and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be missed by all who loved her, but we know she is no longer in pain.
Darlena was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on September 18, 1954, to Reverend Harold and Betty Goff. She attended first through sixth grade at Midway Elementary School on Campbells Creek and then the family moved to Ohio, where she graduated from North Ridgeville High School in 1972. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education from the Clarksville School of Theology in Clarksville, Tennessee.
Darlena was a sweet Christian girl who served the Lord faithfully all her life. She and her two sisters and their friend Bonnie sang in church together as teenagers.
On February 3, 1978, Darlena married Reverend Daniel Mettler. She and her husband Dan served the Lord together in churches in Lorain, Riverside, California and Loudonville, Ohio. Darlena was a Christian school teacher, a Sunday School teacher and a Junior Church teacher. She loved working in Vacation Bible School. Darlena was a loving pastor’s wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family.
She was a founding member of the Country View Baptist Church in Sullivan and served as their secretary since the church started in 2005.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Mettler; mother, Betty Goff; brother, Ed Goff and his first wife, Susan Goff.
She is survived by her son, Jeremiah Mettler of Wooster and his wife Heather and their three children, Arielle, Haylie and Brock; father, Reverend Harold Goff of Charleston, West Virginia; brother, Marvin (and Gwen) Goff of Campbells Creek, West Virginia; sisters, Char (and Reverend Bruce) Smith of Sullivan, and Marlena Goff of Sullivan; brothers, Reverend Glen (and Penny) Goff of Sullivan and Mark (and Bobbie) Goff of Wooster; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Viewing hours will be Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Country View Baptist Church, 557 State Route 224, Sullivan. The funeral will be at Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 11 A.M. at the church. Burial will be at Ashland Memorial Park.
