Louie Gregory “Sweet Lou” Lunato

OBIT FLAGLunato_Louis _SoldierLunato_Louis _todayLouie Gregory “Sweet Lou” Lunato, 85, of Sheffield Village, formerly of Sheffield Lake, passed away unexpectedly at home Friday, August 30, 2013. Louie was born October 5, 1927 in Cleveland and had lived in the area since 1954.

Louie was a WWII and Korean War Army Combat Veteran serving from 1945 to 1953 in Europe and Korea. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Three Bronze Stars, The Purple Heart, as well as many other metals. After the service Lou worked many jobs including as a baker and then driver for the Tip Top Bakery. He continued to drive for such companies as Dairymens, Coca-Cola, Carlings Black Label and the House of LaRose. His career continued as a mailman and after retirement he drove cars at the Cleveland Airport for Budget Rental Car.

Louie was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Sheffield Lake, and a life member of Amvets Post 55, Sheffield Lake, The Disabled American Veterans Post 20, Lorain, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as American Legion Post 211, Avon Lake. Louie was committed to making sure all veterans at Memorial Park, Garfield and St. Teresa Cemeteries had an American Flag on their grave in observance of Memorial Day. He played softball was and avid football fan and an enthusiast of all sports.

Louie is survived by children, Donald (Sandra) of Wakeman, Norm (Christine) of Avon Lake, Jerry of Elyria, Linda Rauscher (Brad) of Sheffield Village and Anita Fike (Tom) of Sheffield Lake. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jason Lunato, Jamie Booth, Jennifer Engle, Ashley and Lindsey Ford, B.J. and Kylee Rauscher, Ashley McIntosh and Robert Fike; and great grandfather of Eric, Austin and Riley Booth, Izabella, Sophia and Benjamin Lunato, Julia and Evan Engle and Jameson McIntosh. Other survivors include brothers, John (Linda) and Cliff Tangler (Carol); and sisters, Carmello Eggert (his twin) and Patricia Langhoff (George).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Louise (nee DiFilippo); and siblings, Nickolas, Nick, Ralph, Antonio, Tristino, Faye, Clementine, Christine and Marie.

Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 163 Avon-Belden Rd., Avon Lake, Wednesday, September 4, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. A prayer service will be at the funeral home at 9:15 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 715 Harris Rd., Sheffield Lake at 10 A.M. Fr. Stephen Shields of the church will officiate. Interment will follow.
